Hansal Mehta questions age cap for COVID-19 vaccination, posts a pic of his 25-year-old son with Down Syndrome | Hindi Movie News – Bollywood – Times of India

Amid demands of opening COVID-19 vaccination of all age groups, the union health ministry recently stated that the aim of the vaccination drive is to administer the vaccine to those who need it and not to those who want it. Reacting to the same, now filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to his official Twitter handle to share a picture of his 25-year-old son, Pallava. He also mentioned Pallava has Down Syndrome and suffered a ‘near fatal respiratory failure’ a few years ago. He wrote, ‘My son Pallava is 25 years old. He has Downs Syndrome. He has suffered from a near fatal respiratory failure a few years ago. Does he want the vaccine or does he need it?’ Several netizens reacted to the filmmaker’s post. While some slammed him stating he is putting up a ‘sarcastic political statement against the establishment by using the medical condition of some innocent soul’, some asked him to consult a doctor for the same. Recently, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and chief ministers of several states appealed to the central government to open vaccination for all people above 18. However, the centre stated ‘that Covid-19 vaccination drive is essentially meant to serve two purposes: to prevent deaths and the other purpose is to protect your health care system. In the middle of a pandemic, the main aim is not to administer the vaccine to those who want it but to those who need it. The most vulnerable in the country have to be protected, and that is what is being done globally also.’ Earlier, the director had put out a plea to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to allow the Bollywood film industry to continue night shoots if precautions and other standard operating procedures (SOPs) are maintained on the sets. He wrote, ‘Please do not force us to cancel even night shootings @mybmc if precautions and SOPs are in place. We will be severely affected particularly those who are on daily wages and depend solely on shoots for survival. Seek urgent intervention @OfficeofUT @AUThackeray.’
