PM Modi was chairing a high-level meeting to take stock of the Covid-19 situation in the country as well as the vaccination status.
INSACOG now consists of 28 labs across the country with the lab network linked with a hospital network for clinical correlation. Besides, sewage sampling is also being done for genomic surveillance, officials apprised the PM during the meeting. The PM also underlined the need to augment healthcare infrastructure and asked states to maintain buffer stock of medicines in every district. He also reviewed production, supply and pipeline of vaccines for the next few months.
During the meeting, PM Modi discussed that across the world, there are countries where the number of active Covid cases continues to remain high. In India too, the figures from states like Maharashtra and Kerala, indicate that there can be no room for complacency, officials pointed out.
The principal secretary to PM, cabinet secretary, principal scientific adviser, health secretary and member health NITI Aayog were among the officials were present in the meeting. Around 39 districts have weekly positivity above 10%. However, the overall weekly positivity has stabilised at below 3% for the tenth consecutive week.
