Shruti Haasan: ‘You can keep calling me chudail, that is my aesthetic and it makes me feel powerful’ | Hindi Movie News – Bollywood – Times of India

With more than I8.5 million followers on Instagram, Bollywood actress-singer Shruti Haasan is changing norms and breaking all barriers. Her personality, be it her love for goth or her love for black and dark shades of lipstick is quite evident in her Instagram pictures and videos, and they often end up winning over the internet. However, the actress also faces some mean comments and gets trolled for her eclectic fashion choices. Now, Shruti has opened up about how some internet users got confused by her look and trolled her calling her names like ‘vampire’ and ‘chudail’. She said ‘When I took a break from the movies for a while and started focusing on my music, writing stories in London, I decided to go back to the same. Some people didn’t understand it and said she looks like a vampire, horror/chudail.’ Adding further Shruti said, ‘I used to be like it’s okay you can call it whatever you want. You can keep calling me chudail, that is my aesthetic and it makes me feel powerful. Now they gave up.’ This is not the first time Shruti is responding to negativity thrown at her. Earlier, during a conversation with an entertainment portal, the actress revealed that she was even called a ‘witch’ for wearing black lipstick but she added that she loves being tagged as one. She said, ‘I think there are a lot of misconceptions about me. I grew up idolizing and I love the whole metal scene, I love the goth subculture. I love that whole aesthetic. I get comments like what happened to you, you look like ‘chudail’ and I say ok. yeah it’s fine…that’s cool because witches are bad so I love that. I will be a chudail/witch that’s fine. I think they don’t realize when they call me a witch that it’s the greatest compliment because I think somewhere I’ve aspired to be a rock and roll witch anyway..so it’s great.’ A while ago, during an interview with ETimes Shruti had talked about the importance of social media and said, ‘It is such a strong tool these days and there are many ways to use it. I prefer to keep it simple and just post things that I think my fans want to see.’ Shruti will be next seen on screen in the Telugu and Kannada bilingual film ‘Salaar’.
